Carnival 2020 in Munich and the surrounding area

Helau Helau!

Munich funtime 2020 - the biggest party in the city center

Carnival has a long history in Munich. Over 100 years ago, Munich developed its own carnival tradition: big balls with fancy costumes were celebrated, a "carnival society" was founded and a carnival parade was held. Carnival is heralded in every year on November 11 by the Würmesia and Narrhalla carnival societies on Marienplatz and Viktualienmarkt.

Munich is also firmly in the hands of fools on February 16, 2020, when the "Damische Ritter" carnival parade takes place. Then colorfully decorated floats and costumed dance groups parade through Munich's city center with music and good cheer.

From 23 to 25 February 2020, "München narrisch" transforms the pedestrian zone from Stachus to Viktualienmarkt into a brightly colored party mile. Live bands play songs to sing along to, guard groups perform their choreos and the fools simply have a good time in the confetti rain.

What is "München narrisch"? The street carnival in the old town - carnival societies, dance groups, live bands and DJs will put you in a foolish open-air mood from 23.2. to 25.2.2020. Participation is free!

Where and how does "München narrisch" take place? The entire pedestrian zone from Stachus to Viktualienmarkt becomes a party mile. The show acts perform on three stages at Stachus, Richard-Strauss-Brunnen and Marienplatz (as of 2019). There is a show program to join in on every day. In addition, the Narrhalla princes with their guards and other carnival companies parade in every day.

What should you definitely not miss? On Shrove Tuesday, in addition to the party mile, the market women's dance traditionally takes place at the Viktualienmarkt. Their dance performances in self-designed costumes are regarded as the highlight of Munich carnival - and quite rightly so.
