BAU 2019, the world's leading trade fair

BAU 2019, the world's leading trade fair for architecture, materials and systems, will take place at the Munich trade fair centre from 14 January. In 19 halls with a total of 200,000 square metres, you will find all the important trades and materials in one place at BAU 2019. With over 2000 exhibitors from a total of 45 countries, there is sure to be plenty of new things for everyone to discover.

BAU's reputation is not only based on the exhibitors' presentations and all the well-known names and brands that are represented in the exhibition halls. The high-calibre presentations in the BAU forums are now almost as important. Experts from all over the world, including numerous well-known planners and architects, provide answers to the big question of the future of construction.

The BAU forum programme is primarily aimed at architects and engineers. In the three trade fair forums (C2, A4 and B0), there are different topics every day, which are orientated towards the main themes. What is the future of digitalisation? What possibilities do prefabrication and modular system construction offer? How will we live and work in the future? What significance does light have in smart buildings? The presentations on the six days of the trade fair will revolve around these topics. The speakers in the exhibition forums are independent experts from all over the world, including representatives from well-known offices such as Nathalie de Vries (MVRDV, Rotterdam), Kees Christiaanse (KCAP, Rotterdam), Kai Uwe Bergmann (BIG, New York) and Rudi Scheuermann (Arup, Berlin).

The special shows at BAU are also primarily aimed at planners and engineers. BAU works together with partners from research and science. For the special show "Living spaces of the future: digital, sustainable, smart", this is the Fraunhofer Building Innovation Alliance. Its 14 institutes will be showcasing innovative solutions and products from Fraunhofer construction research. The main topics are digitalisation, "new sustainability", renewable materials and smart buildings and districts. The ift Rosenheim, another partner, will be presenting a special show on the topic of "TripleS - Smart / Safe / Secure building elements". The special show will demonstrate the use of intelligent building elements, drives, sensors and security systems.

The training camp for the national team of the German construction industry, organised by the ZDB, the Central Association of the German Construction Industry, is also an integral part of BAU. For the fourth time, Germany's best craftsmen - bricklayers, tilers, plasterers and carpenters - will be training at BAU in the East Entrance and demonstrating their skills in front of a large audience. The training camp serves as preparation for the World Skills Championships, which will take place in Kazan, Russia, in August 2019.
